Today marks the 7th anniversary of Longhua’s establishment as an administrative district of Shenzhen. On this special occasion, let’s take a look at 10 key events that define the significant strides Longhua has made in economic development, social welfare, scientific and technological innovation, and social governance.
Over 13.4 square kilometers of industrial space unlocked through land redevelopment
Longhua’s four phases of land redevelopment undertakings wrapped up on Nov. 6, 2024, unleashing over 13.4 square kilometers contiguous land as newly emerged industrial space. Those space will accommodate leading enterprises including Huawei and Mindray.
The district also constructed over 421,000 square meters of multi-story buildings for industrial use, maximizing space in its urban areas.
Ranking 10th place among China’s 100 top industrial districts
Longhua ranked 10th among China’s top 100 industrial districts, according to a list released by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) on Dec. 24, 2024.
In 2024, the district’s total industrial investment and its growth rate are estimated to place second in Shenzhen. The added value of industries above a designated scale grew by 4.7%, ranking first in Shenzhen. The added value of emerging industries accounted for 47.1% of Longhua’s regional GDP, while advanced manufacturing and modern services made up over 60% of the district’s industries above the designated scale and tertiary industry, respectively.
Notable strides made in fixed asset investment sector and key construction projects
Longhua District has made remarkable progress in the construction of 75 provincial and municipal projects and 193 district-level projects, with a total fixed asset investment of 120 billion yuan.
Major construction projects include the headquarters of CapXon and Hymson in Jiulong Hill Digital City, Mindray Animal Tech Park and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Technology Innovation Building.
Three new municipal key hospitals located in Longhua
By the end of 2024, Longhua has introduced three new municipal hospitals - Shenzhen Second People's Hospital Longhua Hospital, Shenzhen Children's Hospital Longhua Campus and Shenzhen Xinhua Hospital - and completed the renovation of Shenzhen People's Hospital Longhua Campus and Longhua District People's Hospital. These efforts have resulted in the addition of more than 6,000 hospital beds to the district's public healthcare system.
In addition, in 2024, more than 19,000 seats have been added to Longhua's public schools and more than 15,000 public houses have been built.
Inked projects with a total investment of 90 billion yuan. More Global Fortune 500 enterprises coming to Longhua
In 2024, Longhua District actively engaged with over 900 enterprises from both domestic and international markets. A total of 148 projects were successfully signed, attracting a combined investment of 90 billion yuan. Additionally, 90 enterprises were incorporated into the district’s project pool, with an estimated aggregate annual output exceeding 10 billion yuan. Notably, Global Fortune 500 companies such as Chubb Limited and Hexagon AB have established their regional offices in Longhua, further highlighting the district’s growing appeal as a strategic business hub.
Digital industry empowers quality growth
On May 17, 2024, Shenzhen’s largest intelligent industrial computing center was officially inaugurated in Longhua District, with an initial computing power capacity of 1,000 Petaflops.
In the first ten months of 2024, Longhua’s digital economy industry achieved a total output exceeding 450 billion yuan, marking a 4.8% year-on-year growth. This rate significantly outperforms the growth of traditional industries in the district.
Longhua District has achieved significant milestones in its industrial development. It is home to Guangdong Province’s first “Sustainable Lighthouse Factory,” accredited by the World Economic Forum (WEF). Additionally, the Shenzhen North Station Software Industrial Base has been recognized as one of the city’s premier software industry hubs, included in Shenzhen’s first batch of software industrial powerhouses. The district’s industrial clusters in big data analytics, application software, and high-performance medical equipment have also been designated as part of the province’s specialized small- and medium-sized enterprise (SME) clusters.
Culture, sports and tourism integration boost consumption
The integration of culture, sports, and tourism has become a new hallmark of Longhua's high-quality development. In 2024, the district has introduced several cultural and tourism projects with a total investment exceeding 100 million yuan.
Longhua is also home to attractions that are both popular and highly regarded. The UniWorld shopping complex has been recognized as one of China’s top business districts. The Guanlan Ancient Market, Shanshuitianyuan Resort, and Karoo Ice World have emerged as prominent cultural and tourist destinations in Guangdong, gaining widespread popularity among consumers. A series of art exhibitions, leveraging multimedia technologies, such as the “Dunhuang: Realm of a Thousand Colors” XR (extended reality) panoramic fantasy location-based entertainment (LBE) experience exhibition at the new Shenzhen Art Museum venue, further showcase the district’s cultural innovation.
Optimal business environment
Longhua District is supporting the quality growth of local enterprises by implementing measures to optimize its business environment. It has introduced a "1+22" preferential policy package for the manufacturing industry, along with initiatives to foster the growth of the business service sector and foreign-funded enterprises. Additionally, the district has established a mechanism that allows businesses to receive subsidies without the need for an application process. This mechanism has been recognized by People’s Daily as the province’s most impactful measure for streamlining enterprise-related procedures.
In 2024, the district saw the establishment of over 72,000 new business entities and the addition of 10 headquarters enterprises.
Shenzhen-Milan Lifestyle Week
The Shenzhen-Milan Lifestyle Week took place from March 19 to 22, 2024. As one of the event's key venues, Longhua District hosted the city’s first business promotion conference focused on the modern fashion industry, signing agreements with over 60 fashion enterprises. The district also partnered with Huawei Cloud to drive the digital transformation of local fashion companies, including Marisfrolg Group.
China’s first UNDP sustainable development project launched
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Innovation Pilot Project (Shenzhen Longhua), the first of its kind in China, was officially launched at the Longhua International Cooperation Center on August 13, 2024. The project aims to position Longhua as a global leader in sustainable development by exploring innovative policies, pathways, and local solutions for the international expansion of Shenzhen enterprises. Additionally, the district’s total import and export value for 2024 is projected to reach 540 billion yuan, reflecting an 80.1% growth in actual foreign capital utilization.
